Description: The BA in Gender and Sexuality Studies offers a strong liberal arts foundation that includes: critical thinking, research, analysis, problem solving, knowledge of social structures and change, and an understanding of diversity and global perspectives. Developing a strong understanding of gender, race, sexuality, gender identity, class, disability, and other social categories gives students a strong background for work in advocacy or social services-related positions, arts and literature, education, law, community development, medical professions, human resources, business, and government (to name a few). The preparation in critical thinking and social awareness is also an excellent background for students pursuing graduate and professional degrees.

Requirements:

  • WS 201 Introduction to Women’s Studies or WS 202 Representing Women Across Cultures
  • WS 455 Feminist Research Methods or WS 465 Sex, Gender, and the Body
  • WS 471 Seminar in Feminist Theory

9 credits from the following:

  • WS 401 Women and Immigration
  • WS 402 Transnational Feminisms
  • WS 403 Gender and Horror
  • WS 404 Arab-Muslim Feminisms
  • WS 405 Alternative Genders and Sexualities
  • WS 450 Special Topics
  • WS 453 Women and Politics
  • WS 454 Women Crossing Borders

18 credit hours of electives from upper division courses from Gender and Sexuality Studies curriculum and from the approved list of courses cross-listed with Gender and Sexuality Studies. Refer to the Undergraduate Catalog for a complete course list
